The Poem
I sit alone
in the shadows
of the old house.
There is a silence
within…
but a storm
is
brewing
without.
The fragrance
of the summer’s
storm
is in
the air.
The trees
shift and drift
in the rain
as if
to rejoice.
The heart
grows
heavy
for
the storm
without
has ceased.
The storm
has stopped…
but
thunder
is gathering
once again.
The rain
descends
in sheets
and the heart
again
rejoices.
Now
that the rain
has come,
the air seems
so
fresh
and
still.
The wind
slowly gathers
in the trees
and they
begin
to shift
again.
What
could be
more joyous
than sitting alone
in the silence
of this
old house?
